Easy Does It Scooter Maintenance Tips

If you own a scooter, it would help a lot if you know how to fix it as well as driving it. As you go along using your bike, you might encounter problems. Here are good tips to follow on how to repair and maintain your scooter.

1. Scooter won't move? When the scooter won't move, check its rear clutch. Check the chains as well. Do they move? If so, then the problem is in the scooter's rear clutch. You might need to get them replaced.

2. No Power? If the scooter doesn't have power, it might have a bad ignition system. Open the panel connected under the scooter's ignition switch. Find the two wires coming from below. Connect them. Doing this bypasses the ignition switch. Does the scooter work now? If so, then you either have a bad connection or a bad ignition switch. Repair or replace as necessary.

3. Scooter moving slowly? Check three things: motor, battery, and brakes. If the scooter makes unnecessary noises or if you smell something burning, then it could be a problem with the engine. Or, the battery might need recharging. This is true only for electricity-powered scooters, though. Otherwise, adjust the brakes because they might be stuck.

4. Brakes don't work? Check the scooter's brake cable. Loosen the assembly nut or merely flex the handles of the break. Tighten the brake cables as well. Inspect the brake's thread. If it is stripped, you have to change them.

5. Rear noises? If there's some sort of grinding noise coming from the rear of the scooter, it could be a problem with the motor or the rear chain and sprockets. Take the chain out. If the noise still exists, then it comes from the motor. Else, you might just need to line up the chain to the sprocket.

6. Tire problems? The two most common problems with tires are that first, they don't inflate. And second, they don't stay inflated. If the scooter tires don't inflate at all though and they seem to be in good condition, then the problem could be in the inner tube. On the other hand, if it doesn't stay inflated, then it is a problem with the scooter's valve stem.

Here are the most common scooter maintenance tips and tricks. Should you come across any trouble with your scooter, just go over this list and repair as necessary. Your scooter should be back to is usual form.
